Which was the First State Formed in India?
The First State of independent India was Andhra Pradesh, with Guntur as its capital, founded on a linguistic basis. Formulation of Andhra occurred because of the death of Potti Sriramalu after a 56-day hunger strike, who was demanding a separate Telugu state. In 1956, Telugu-speaking regions in Hyderabad state were combined with Andhra to develop Andhra Pradesh, making Hyderabad city the state capital.
