Mod-n Counter and Ripple Counter are both Asynchronous counters. An asynchronous counter clock signal is only given to a single flip-flop, and outputs of previous flip-flops drive others.
While in a Synchronous counter, all flip-flops are clocked simultaneously by a single clock pulse. Hence it will be faster than in an asynchronous counter.
