Where Should Consumers go to get Justice?

Consumers should go to Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission to get justice. Under COPRA, three-tier quasi-judicial machinery at the district, state, and national levels was set up. The consumer forums or consumer protection councils guide consumers on how to file cases in the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions.

Ways through which Consumers can get Justice

The details on how a consumer can get justice have been elaborated below:

  • The district-level authority is called District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission which deals with cases involving claims up to Rs 1 crore. 
  • Similarly, the authority at the state level is called State Commission and it deals with cases involving claims between Rs 1 crore and Rs 10 crore. 
  • The national-level authority known as National Commission — deals with cases involving claims exceeding Rs 10 crore.
  • In case, the consumer’s case is dismissed at the district level then he can appeal to the state level commission and then the national level commission.
