What is the Unit of Mechanical Energy?

By BYJU'S Exam Prep

Updated on: September 25th, 2023

(A) Joule (J)

(B) Watt (W)

(C) Joule/sec (J/s)

(D) Newton (N)

The unit of mechanical energy is Joule (J). Energy is the term used to describe the capacity to accomplish tasks. The erg is the CGS unit of energy while the joule (J) is the SI unit. Energy can only be changed from one place to another; it cannot be created or destroyed.

Types of Energy

Energy is of two types, that mentioned and explained below.

Kinetic Energy (KE): Energy because of the motion of an object is known as kinetic energy.

KE = 1/2 × m × v2, Where v is the velocity of an object and m is the mass of an object.

Potential Energy (PE): Energy due to virtue of the position of an object is known as potential energy.

PE = m × g × h, where g is the acceleration due to gravity, and m is the mass of an object.

h is the distance between the surface of the earth and the object.

Power: Power is explained as the energy per unit of time. SI Unit of power is Watt (W).

Power = Energy / Time

Watt (W) = Joule (J) / Time (s)

Force: Force is explained as a push or pull. SI unit of force is Newton (N).

  • SI unit of energy = Joule (J).
  • SI unit of force = Newton (N).
  • SI unit of power = Watt (W).

Summary:

What is the Unit of Mechanical Energy? (A) Joule (J) (B) Watt (W) (C) Joule/sec (J/s) (D) Newton (N)

Joules are used to measure mechanical energy. Energy is the term used to describe the capacity to accomplish tasks. The erg is the CGS unit of energy, while the joule (J) is the SI unit. Energy can only be changed from one place to another; it cannot be created or destroyed.
