Relation Between Occupational Structure and Development

The countries where more people are involved in the secondary sector that is manufacturing sector are developed. In highly developed countries, a large population is involved in tertiary occupations like banking, transport, commerce, and administration. The distribution of population across different industries and sectors is called Occupational structure. They are classified as primary, secondary, and tertiary.

• Primary Sector: In this sector, the larger population of a developing economy is engaged. The activities like agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, etc. are included in the primary sector.
• Secondary Sector: This sector requires production techniques, machinery, and factory processes. The manufacturing industry, building and construction work, etc. are the secondary sector.
• Tertiary Sector: The important component of this sector is manpower. The sector of transport, communications, commerce, administration, and other services is the tertiary sector. It incorporates both production and exchange activities.
