In a certain transformer, the input power to the primary is 120 W. If 8.5 W are lost to the winding resistance, then what is the ratio of power output to power input, neglecting any other issues ______.
Answer
The ratio of power output to power input is 0.93.
Solution
Given,
Transformer input power to primary winding Pin=120 W,
Power loss in primary winding of transformer PL1=8.5 W,
So, available power in primary winding of transformer P1= Pin–PL1
P1=120-8.5
P1=111.5 W
In transformer power available on primary = power on secondary winding = 111.5 W
So, power available on secondary winding = output power of transformer = P2=111.5 W
Then, the ratio of power output to power input of transformer is =power output/power input
=111.5/120
=0.929
=0.93
