What is the Rank of India in the Production of Rice?

In terms of rice production, India ranks second in the world. China is the world’s largest rice producer. It is a staple food in India’s eastern and southern regions, requiring temperatures around 25 degrees Celsius and more than 100 cm of precipitation. Rice production expanded from 53.6 million tons in 1980 to 120 million tons in 2020-21.

India is the leading exporter of Basmati rice to the global market. Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Western Uttar Pradesh are the states that grow the most Basmati rice.
