The Name of the Chinese Parliament is Quanguo Renmin Daibiao Dahui (National People’s Congress). It is the world’s biggest legislative body. According to 2018 data, there are 2980 members in total. The Chinese Parliament meets in full for two weeks once a year, during which time it makes some of the most significant and fundamental decisions regarding various pieces of legislation, employment decisions, etc for the welfare of the state.

The Chinese Parliament is also known as the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China or simply the National People’s Congress. The Parliament is elected for a five-year term and is a ‘unicameral legislature’.

The NPC is chosen for a five-year term. Every year in the spring, it holds annual sessions in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, which typically last 10 to 14 days.

The National Committee of the People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a consultative body whose members represent various social groups, holds its meetings concurrently with the NPC sessions most of the time.

  • The NPC and CPPCC are frequently referred to as the Lianghui because they are the principal deliberative bodies in China (Two Sessions).
  • The NPC claims that the country’s officers of state can review previous policies and present future plans during its annual meetings.

China holds elections on the basis of a hierarchical structure where the local People’s Congresses are elected directly, whereas the President and the State Council are elected by the National People’s Congress.
