The Early Nationalists, also known as the Moderates, believed in moderate politics and loyalty to the British crown. They requested constitutional and other reforms within the framework of British rule because they trusted the British sense of justice and fair play. Some of the important moderate leaders were Ferozeshah Mehta and Dadabhai Naoroji. Whereas on the other hand, Assertive Nationalists believed in radical policy. They wanted complete independence from British control and the main objective of the assertive nationalists was the immediate attainment of Swaraj.
