What is the broader meaning of democracy?

Democracy is a form of government in which the rulers are elected by the people. One chief factor common to all democracies is that the government is chosen by the people. A democracy is a system of government in which the people directly exercise their authority or choose representatives from among themselves, such as members of a parliament. Additionally known as the majority rule, it is not transferable here. Representatives are chosen by the people. Elections are held for representatives, and the voters choose them.
