Lok Adalat and its Objectives
The Lok Adalat also known as the ‘people’s court’ was created as an ‘alternative dispute resolution mechanism’ and has a long history. The cases which are pending from a long time in courts or panchayat and can be settled amicably by bringing both the opposing parties together by presenting certain terms and conditions are taken up by the Lok Adalat. The main objectives of the Lok Adalat are:
- To provide an alternative to the mainstream judicial system.
- To pace up the legal process and provide fast justice to the needy.
- To reach a fair solution or compromise between the parties.
