What is Fleming’s Left Hand Rule?

A force perpendicular to the field’s direction and the direction of the current flow is experienced by a current-carrying conductor when it is exposed to an external magnetic field. To determine the force operating on a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field, Fleming’s left-hand rule is used. According to Fleming’s Left Hand Rule, if the thumb, forefinger, and middle finger are arranged in a straight line on the left hand, the thumb will point in the direction of the force experienced by the conductor, and the forefinger will point in the direction of the magnetic field, and the middle finger will point in the direction of the electric current.

Application of Fleming’s left-hand rule

  1. We may ascertain the direction of the force exerted on the proton using Fleming’s left-hand rule.
  • Given that the proton is traveling eastward, the current must also be flowing eastward. Because the magnetic field is operating downward, the force is moving in the direction of the north.
  1. We may identify the direction of the magnetic field that is operating on the electron using Fleming’s left-hand rule.
  • A negative charge is present on an electron, as we are aware. When an electron goes upward, the direction of the current is the reverse, that is, downward when the electron moves upward.

Summary:

What is Fleming’s Left Hand Rule?

A force will exert itself on a conductor carrying current whenever it comes into contact with a magnetic field. You may use Fleming’s Left Hand Rule to determine this force’s direction. It has been discovered that whenever a current-carrying conductor is positioned inside a magnetic field, a force operates on the conductor in a direction that is opposite to the directions of the current and the magnetic field. A current-carrying wire placed in a magnetic field is subjected to force, and the direction of that force is determined using Fleming’s left-hand rule. The thumb indicates the direction of force acting on the wire if the thumb, index finger, and middle finger are held perpendicular to one another.
