What does DCP Stand for?
DCP stands for the Deputy Commissioner of Police, which is a post similar to Superintendent of Police in metropolitan cities. DCP is in charge of the District police and head of the criminal administration. A DCP is responsible for maintaining, directing, and controlling the actions of the police. The roles of a DCP are-
- Maintenance of Law and order in the state/ Union territories.
- It is responsible for controlling the actions of the police officers of India.
- In the metropolitan Indian districts, a DCP is responsible for hearing the revenue cases.
A person aiming to be a DCP must be an Indian citizen, hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university, and be 21 to 32 in age.
