What is Article 42?

Article 42 is for just and humane work conditions and maternity relief. “The State shall make provision for securing humane conditions of work and for maternity relief”. Article 42 is dedicated to fulfilling the economic and social welfare of the people, and its objective is to establish India as an s welfare state.

What is Article 42 of the Indian Constitution?

Considering the fact, that most of India’s population is poor, that’s why so many people find work in low-paying sectors, with low-quality work environments. These conditions are not at all humane and lead to many accidents. Additionally, female employees were getting fired from their job when they were taking maternity leaves, 

To ensure that the state changes its casual attitude towards its employees, Article 42 was brought to life. As per Article 42, the Constitution of India states that the state shall make provisions to make sure humane conditions of work and maternity relief. The nature of this article was such that, it was passed without any debate when it was put for discussion on 23rd November 1948
