What does Urban Waste Include?

Urban waste includes a combination of household waste, industrial waste, and waste coming from administrative, social or public facilities. Broadly urban waste can be understood as a combination of residential and industrial waste. Urban waste, as the name suggests, refers to the waste collected in the urban areas (cities and towns).

Urban waste can be classified into the following types:

  • Organic waste

Urban Waste in India

Urban waste in India is an ongoing problem that has been posing too many environmental and health risks for the people. If this waste is not managed in a proper manner, it may prove to be quite hazardous for us and the environment. The urban waste is generally collected by the municipal authorities through the Urban Waste Management System which was also proved to be a flawed one. A total of 62 million tons of municipal solid waste per annum is generated in urban India, which is expected to go up to 165 million tons by 2030.
