Who was Muvendar?
The Cholas, Cheras, and Pandyas were called Muvendars. They ruled over the Tamil people during ancient and medieval India.
- They did not collect taxes.
- They demanded and received from the people.
- Muvendar distributed the wealth among their supporters.
- They went on military expeditions.
- They collected tribute from neighbouring areas.
- The two important cities were Madurai, the capital of the Pandyas, and Puhar or Kaveripattinam, the port of the Cholas.
