Napoleonic Code of 1804

The Napoleonic Code of 1804 was introduced by Napoleon to remove the privileges of the upper class and provide everyone with constitutional equality. It was a major move that cemented Napoleon as a strategic leader. He introduced many sanctions and policies which led to an increase in the efficiency of administration. The trade also improved substantially.

However, the policies of Napoleon also introduced taxation, censorship, and forced enlistment which led to resentment. The political freedom of people suffered substantially during the Napoleonic Code.
