  • Burn the debris carefully.
  • After the rain, the ashes mix with the soil and provide essential nutrients.
  • Leave the old land uncropped for 10 to 25 years.
  • Cultivate the land again after 10 to 20 years.

What is Shifting Cultivation?

Shifting Cultivation is a type of farming in which a plot of land is cleared by felling the trees and burning them. Then the land is left abandoned and allows the vegetation to grow freely and the cultivators move to another plot. It is also known as ‘slash and burn’ agriculture.
