Salient Features of Environment Protection Act 1986

As per the Environment Protection Act 1986, the central government has the power to take required measures to protect the environment.

  • As per this Act, no organization or individual can emit any environmental pollutants more than the prescribed standards.
  • Any person empowered by the central government has the right to enter any place for inspection of compliance of any orders and for the purpose of examining any plant, equipment, document, etc. 
  • This Act covers all forms of pollution0 water, water, soil, etc.
  • It prohibits the use of hazardous materials without taking prior permission of the central government.
  • Under this Act, a government analyst will be appointed by the central government for analyzing the samples of water, air soul, and other substances.
  • If any offense under this Act is committed by a company, then every person will be deemed to be guilty unless proven otherwise.
