What are Output Devices?

By Manesh Singh|Updated : July 2nd, 2022

Output Devices are peripherals connected to computers that are used to populate processed data in the form of audio, video, graphics, and physical reproduction (printed). After processing the data the central processing unit sends the outcome to output devices that are used to communicate with the user or peripheral devices connect to provide output like signal lights, printers, monitors, plotters, and 3D printers.

Important Facts of Output Devices

Here are Important facts about the output devices that would help you understand them in a better way. The important information is given below:

  • These are peripheral devices connected to the motherboard to display the final output.
  • Without peripheral devices, you cannot find out what the computer is processing.

The Example of output devices are:

3D printer

COM (Computer Output Microfilm)

Flat Panel

Sound Card

What are Output Devices?

Every computer/microprocessor has some output devices to communicate with the user. After taking inputs from the user the CPU process it and send the output to the peripherals device. The peripheral device that shows the output to the end-user is called the output device. If there is no output device in any system it is either part of internal processing where output is used in other processes or the system is of no use.

Output Devices FAQs

  • Anything that populates the data to the end-user is known as an output device. Every system needs a device that will share the outcome after processing it to the user otherwise the system is of no use. Example of the output device is monitor, printer, speaker, plotter, etc.

  • The input devices are used by the microprocessor to take input from users like keyboards, mouse, pens, etc whereas the output devices are used to show processed data to the end-user.
