The volumetric efficiency of air compressors is of the order of 70-90%. The difference between the displacement volume is the swept volume, and the air suction volume that has to be compressed is considered when defining the volumetric efficiency of the reciprocating compressor.

Volumetric efficiency of Air Compressor

ηv = 1 + C - C [P2/P1]1/n

C = clearance volume

The reciprocating air compressors' volumetric efficiency is 65 to 85%. Volumetric efficiency is the ratio of the mass density of the mixture of air-fuel drawn to the cylinder to the mass density of the same air volume in the intake manifold. It is used in other engineering aspects like electronic components and hydraulic pumps. In an internal combustion engine, the volumetric efficiency design is the efficiency where the engine can move the air and fuel charge in and out of the cylinders.

Summary:

Volumetric efficiency of air compressor of the order of - (a) 20-30% (b) 40-50% (c) 60-70% (d) 70-90%

An air compressor's volumetric efficiency of between 70 and 90 percent. It indicates the ratio of air volume drawn into the cylinder to the swept volume of a cylinder.
