UPSC Cut-Off 2022: IAS Prelims & Mains Previous Year Cutoff

By Arpit Kumar Jain|Updated : April 6th, 2022

UPSC Cutoff is the minimum marks required to clear the UPSC Prelims, Mains, and interview round. It also indicates the marks of the last candidate who was selected on the basis of vacancies in that particular category. As we all know the UPSC selection process goes through three stages. The first stage of the UPSC selection is called as Preliminary exam, and those who clear the UPSC Prelims cutoff will be eligible for Main Examination. Candidates who clear the UPSC Mains cutoff are called for the personality test.

Candidates preparing for the upcoming IAS Exam must go through the previous year's UPSC Cutoff for a better understanding of the level of the competition and set their target score accordingly. UPSC releases the Prelims and Mains Cutoff as per reservation categories.

UPSC Cutoff

The UPSC Cutoff for prelims is based on General Studies 1, as the CSAT or General Studies 2 is only qualifying in nature. The candidates need to score at least 33% in CSAT to qualify. Union Public Service Commission releases the UPSC Cut Off for both Prelims and Mains only after the final result of the Civil Services Exam is declared for that specific year. UPSC Cut Off Tie-Breaking Rules

There are a few things every candidate must know with regard to the selection based on UPSC Cutoff. When two or more candidates secure equal marks in UPSC Exam, the tie will be resolved by applying the following rules.

  • The candidate who scores more on compulsory papers and personality tests will be ranked higher
  • If the marks mentioned are also equal then the candidate who is older will get a higher rank
  • In rare cases where the candidates score equally in the compulsory papers and the personality test, and also same in age, then the candidate who has scored more marks only in compulsory papers will get a higher rank.
