Gujarat National Law Institute University (GNLU) is a National Law University situated in Gandhinagar, Gujarat India. It was founded in 2003 by the State of Gujarat. It is the only law school in the state to have been established under the National Law School.

  • The University introduced its first academic programme in 2003, with Prof. (Dr.) V.S. Mani as the Director. The vision of GNLU is to become one of the best centres of legal education, training and research in the world.
  • The mission of GNLU is to develop and nurture the intellect for the betterment of the nation and humanity through Law and Justice. The objectives of the GNLU among other thing are to contribute to the national development by instilling a sense of responsibility among her students, while simultaneously cultivating in them the spirit of intellectual freedom, qualities of leadership, imaginative power and clarity.

  • GNLU has been designing and delivering courses to enhance the ability and capacity of the students, members of the faculty and other participants in avoiding and resolving problems under the framework of the law.

  • The University is a participant of the Association of Indian Universities, and the benefactor of the University is the Hon. Chief Justice of India. It works diligently with the High Court of Gujarat, as well as the National Judicial Academy.

ADMISSION

  • GNLU take students for an under-graduate and post-graduate program through Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) which is being conducted every year.

  • GNLU has been ranked in the top in the National Law Universities list. Students should have passed 12th standard with no less than 50% marks.

COURSE STRUCTURE

  • The University has developed a holistic approach towards understanding law and justice from a multi-disciplinary perspective. The University offers unique five years integrated undergraduate program B.A.LL.B.(Hons.), B.B.A. LL.B (Hons.), B.Com LL.B (Hons.) to generate exceptionally skilled global legal professionals.

  • The University is established by the Bar Council of India, and the University admits 115 undergraduates each year through the Common Law Admission Test. They finish 15 trimesters before being awarded a combined B.A.LL.B (Hons.), B.B.A. LL.B (Hons.), B.Com LL.B (Hons.) degree. The post-graduate course proffered at the university is the LL.M. amount.

  • M. course is of One-year period and is separated into three Trimester. University offers specialization in Intellectual Property & Business Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law, and Business Law.

  • Allotment of LL.M. subject specializations will be done at the time of admission based on merit. Discipline will be offered subject to the availability of faculty and a sufficient number of students opting for it.

PLACEMENTS

  • The internships start from the first year itself. Placements begin from 3rd years onwards. Some students secure offers by working excellently during their internships.

  • There is a placement cell in University which works day in day out to help students. Tier - I Law Firms are the biggest recruiters. Day zero materializes in the last month of 4th year. Many law firms come for the interview.

  • Placements per cent are outstanding. After day zero in 4th, many students keep getting placed based on rolling arrangements. Which requires many banks, law firms, companies keep coming during the 5th year.

COLLEGE INFRASTRUCTURE

  • The Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is a National Law University established under the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003 in the state of Gujarat. The campus is located in Gandhinagar, which is also the capital city of Gujarat and is located 24 kilometers north of the city of Ahmedabad. The statute provides for the Chief Justice of India or a Senior Supreme Court Judge to serve as the chancellor of the university.

  • The campus area of the University is spread over 52 acres, with all basic facilities such as a library, internet, labs, moot court halls, auditorium and many more. The University has 12 research centres with approximately 60 teaching and research faculty members.

  • The University holds a great faculty-student ratio of 1:19. 79% of faculty members in the University hold a PhD degree and the average age of faculty members is 38 years. Every year, the University submits approximately 1,000 students and out of them, 44% are women students.

             EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

        Moot Court Competitions

Moot court and other legal events are organized within the university campus, as a part of the curriculum as well as an extracurricular activity.

  • The university has a Moot Court Committee, popularly known as the MCC for conducting moot courts and other related activities. The MCC also organize three inter-university moot court competitions, namely the GNLU International Moot Court Competition (GIMC), the GNLU Moot on Securities and Investment Law (GNLUMSIL), and the NHRC-GNLU National Moot Court Competition (NHRC-GNLU NMCC) in association with various law firms and Government organizations.

  • Students from the university have participated in various national and international moot court competitions all over and winning laurels for the university. GNLU has won the India Rounds of the prestigious Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in 2016.

  • In the year 2017, the university team won the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition. In the year 2018, the university team won the South Asia Rounds of the Oxford Price Media Law Moot Court Competition. The university team also excelled in the ISRO India Funding Rounds of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competitions and the Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition.
