The fixed charges and the charge per kilometer are Rs 5 and Rs 10. A person should pay Rs 255 for traveling a distance of 25 km. Distance is the sum of an object’s movements, regardless of direction. The distance can be defined as the amount of space an object has covered, regardless of its starting or ending position.
Steps to find fixed charges and the charge per kilometer
Let x represent the fixed charge.
Y will be the variable charge.
Given that the fees for 10 km are Rs. 105, and the fees for 15 km are Rs.
So, according to the question:
Fixed charge + 10 x (charge per km) = Rs 105
x + 10y = 105
On rearranging we get:
x = 105 – 10y …. (1)
For 15 kilometers,
x + 15y = 155
On rearranging we get:
x = 155 – 15y …. (2)
From equations (1) and (2)
105 – 10y = 155 – 15y
y = 10
Substituting y in equation (1)
x = 105 – 10 x 10
x = 5
For travelling 25 km, he has to pay
= x + 25y
putting value in the above equation we get:
= 5 + 25 x 10
= Rs 255

The taxi charges in a city consist of a fixed charge together with the charge for the distance covered. For a distance of 10 km, the charge paid is Rs. 105 and for a journey of 15 km, the charge paid is Rs. 155. What are the fixed charges and the charge per kilometer?
