The Slope Correction is

By Mona Kumari|Updated : June 22nd, 2022

For a length of 60m along a gradient of 1 in 20, the slope correction is:

  1. 7.5 m
  2. 7.5 cm
  3. 0.75 cm
  4. 5.75 cm

Answer: 2. 7.5 cm

Slope correction is 7.5 cm

Solution:

Given : Length = 60 m, gradient = 1 in 20

Gradient = h/L

tanθ=1/20=h/60

⇒ h=3 m

We know the slope correction is given by

Slope correction = h2/2L

Hence,

C32/60=0.075 m=7.5 cm (negative)

Correction due to slope will always be negative because slope distance is greater than the corresponding horizontal distance.
