The Primary Winding of a Transformer

By Aina Parasher|Updated : July 5th, 2022

The primary winding of a transformer has 110 V ac across it. What is the secondary voltage if the turns ratio is 8?

  1. 8.8 V
  2. 88 V
  3. 880 V
  4. 13.75 V

Answer: D. 13.75 V

Voltage across the secondary winding of the transformer terminals is 13.75 V

Solution:

Given,

Voltage applied across the primary winding of transformer V1=110 V,

And turns ratio a = 8.

As we know,

V1/V2=a

So,

V2=V1/a

V2=1108

V2=13.75 V
