The maximum efficiency of the screw jack is: η = (1 – SinΦ)/(1+ SinΦ).

Solution:

The efficiency of a screw jack is given as,

η = tanα / tan (α+Φ)    ———– 1

For maximum efficiency,  dα/dΦ =0

Helix angle for which the screw jack efficiency will be maximum,

α = 45 – Φ/2

On putting the above value of helix angle in equation 1, 

The maximum efficiency of the screw jack is ηmax = (1 – SinΦ)/(1+ SinΦ)
