The gas-filled in the electric bulb is argon which prevents tungsten filaments from declining rapidly, prolonging bulb life. Other gases such as neon, krypton, helium, and nitrogen are also used for flashing. The inert gas reacts with the burning of the filament of the bulb. Therefore we have to use either inert gases like Argon or inactive nitrogen.

Fluorescent lamps are filled with inert gas and mercury vapor or neon that emit ultraviolet light when charged. The inside of the bulb is painted to add color.
