The first women Chief Justice of the High Court in India was Leila Seth. She was chosen to serve as the Himachal Pradesh High Court's Chief Justice in 1991. She was also the first female judge of the Delhi High Court. She was also a part of the three-person Justice Verma committee, which was constituted in the wake of the infamous Nirbhaya rape case in Delhi in 2012 to change the country's rape laws.
