The first women Chief Justice of the High Court in India was Leila Seth. She was chosen to serve as the Himachal Pradesh High Court’s Chief Justice in 1991. She was also the first female judge of the Delhi High Court. She was also a part of the three-person Justice Verma committee, which was constituted in the wake of the infamous Nirbhaya rape case in Delhi in 2012 to change the country’s rape laws.

On August 6, 1990, she was appointed Judge in the Calcutta High Court following a lengthy and illustrious career as a lawyer.
On January 28, 2000, the day of the court’s Golden Jubilee, she was also nominated for the position of Supreme Court of India.
Justice Pal has rendered numerous harsh rulings in well-known cases.
