Eight Degree Channel

The Eight Degree Channel forms the maritime border between India and the Maldives. It divides the Maldives from the Minicoy Islands. It is so named because it is located north of the equator on the 8-degree line of latitude.

Nine Degree Channel: It divides the main Lakshadweep archipelago from the island of Minicoy. It has a depth of 2597 meters and a width of 200 kilometers. Due to the fact that it connects Europe, the Middle East, and Western Asia with South-East Asia and the far East, it is crucial from a strategic perspective.

Ten Degree Channel: The Bay of Bengal divides the Andaman Islands from the Nicobar Islands, creating the Indian Union Territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It has a minimum depth of 7.3 meters, is 150 km wide from north to south, and is 10 km long from east to west. Its location 10 degrees north of the equator gives rise to its moniker.
