The effective span of a simply supported slab is-

  1. Half of the clear distance plus width of column
  2. 0.7 times clear distance between supports
  3. The clear distance between supports
  4. Centre to centre distance between supports

Answer: D. Centre to centre distance between supports

The effective span of a simply supported slab is taken as the centre to centre distance between supports.

Solution

For simply supported beams and slabs (Leff)

Leff = minimum of { Lo+w and Lo+d }

where

Lo = clear span

d = effective depth

w = Support width

The effective span of a simply supported slab is equal to the effective depth or width of the slab plus the clear span between supports (i.e., the length up to the face of the support).
