The earth has sufficient resources to meet the requirements of everyone, but not sufficient to meet the greed of one human being. This statement comes from Mahatma Gandhi, who states that resources and development are linked to one another. It is relevant to the development discussion because it is closely related. Resource conservation is also important for development sustainability.

As the declaration claims, the earth has enough resources (renewable and non-renewable) to meet everyone’s needs. However, they should be used with environmental protection and cleanliness in mind to maintain a balance between production and use and to avoid bottlenecks. The Earth is made up of four separate layers. Geologists believe that as the earth cools, the heavier, denser material sank toward the center, while the lighter material rose to the top. The innermost layer is made of iron or nickel.

Various Layers of the Earth

Inner Core:

The center and the hottest layer of the Earth. The inner core is heavy and consists of iron and nickel with temperatures up to 5,500 °C. Due to its enormous thermal energy, the inner core indicates the engine room of the Earth.

Outer Core:

The outer core shows a very hot metallic sphere, with a temperature of about 40000F to 90000F. It is so hot that all the metal inside is liquid. The outer core lies about 1800 miles below the crust and is of 1400 miles in thickness. They are made of metals such as iron and nickel. The outer core surrounds the inner core.

Mantle:

The mantle is the widest part of the Earth. Its thickness is about 2,900 km. The mantle is primarily composed of semi-molten rock known as magma. Rocks are hard at the top of the mantle, but soften and begin to melt as they go down.

Summary:

The Earth has enough resources to meet the needs of all but not enough to satisfy the greed of even one person. How is this statement relevant to the discussion of development? Discuss.

The statement The Earth has enough resources to meet the needs of all but not enough to satisfy the greed of even one person explains the sustainability of the maintenance and development of resources.
