(a) 80°

(b) 75°

(c) 60°

(d) 105°

The angle between the minute and hour hands of a clock at 8:30 is 75

We are aware that a clock’s hour hand completes one rotation every twelve hours.

The hour hand’s 12 hour angle trace = 360

Now,

Angle traced by the hour hand in 8 hours 30 minutes, i.e., 17/2 = (360/12 x 17/2)

= 255

We are also aware that a clock’s minute hand revolves once every 60 minutes.

The minute hand’s angle over a period of 60 minutes = 360

Now,

Angle traced by the minute hand in 30 minutes = (360/60 x 30) = 180

Required angle between two hands of the clock = 255 – 180 = 75
