How to Clear NABARD Grade A Cut Off?
Follow the syllabus as provided in the official notification of the NABARD. Also, solve past year question papers to understand the nature and distribution of the questions. Before we discuss how to clear the NABARD Grade A cut-off, look at some of the crucial particulars of the exam:
Phase I - Preliminary Exam (Online)
Marks – 200
Composite Time – 120 minutes
Objective Type – Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)
Phase II – Mains Examination (Online)
Marks – 200
Time – (90 + 90) 180 minutes
A Mix of Descriptive (Paper I) and Objective (Paper-II)
Paper I | English | 100 marks | Descriptive |
Paper-II | ESI + ARD (for General Posts) + Questions related to Subject/Discipline | 100 marks | Objective (MCQ) |
To crack the NABARD Grade A exam, you will have to pass the sectional as well as the overall cut-off. Starting with Phase I of the examination, since the time is composite and not sectional, you can use it at your convenience. E.g. – if your ‘Reasoning’ is not strong, you can attempt just as many questions such that your sectional cut-off is taken care of and then move forward to other sections to increase your overall score.
Considering the Phase II of the examination, both the papers of this phase overlap with Phase I of the examination. Instead of segregating them as per the phases of the exam, rather prepare them compositely.

One would require a carefully planned and strategic study plan to pass a test of this caliber. Additionally, one would require a list of resources and relevant themes for preparation. For Phase 2 papers that overlap with the Phase 1 papers
Economic & Social Issues (ESI) and Agriculture & Rural Development (ARD) are common to both, Phase I & II. Also, for this exam, it is the elephant in the room.
This is because a major chunk of the questions will be asked from this discipline, in both stages of the exam. To add to this, they are vast topics. Here are a few tips to clear the NABARD Grade A exam with respect to ESI & ARD:
- Cover the historical facts of the Indian Economy (more important for Phase II)
- Study basic terms related to ESI
- Read current affairs, statistical information on current affairs (at least the last three months), and Economic surveys.
- Cover the basic concepts and all the important schemes related to Agriculture & Rural Development.
- Study state-based agriculture and soil distribution.
- Follow the reports published by NABARD, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Rural Development.
To clear the NABARD Grade A exam, it is extremely important to prepare well for English. It holds 40 marks in Phase I (MCQ type) and a whole descriptive paper of 100 marks in Phase II.
For Phase-I, carefully attempt this section as it has more weightage than others. The descriptive English paper of Phase II comprises an Essay (40 marks), one precise (20 marks), one comprehension (20 marks), and one letter/email/memo (20 marks).
For a quick grasp and a better understanding of comprehension, develop the habit of reading. For essays, research online to find the relevant topics.
Write at least 4-6 essays on the keyboard. For precise writing, chose any editorial of 500-700 words and then compressed it to 200-300 words without losing the essence of the article.
Always make a rough structure first and then write the final precise. For a letter/email/memo, check online to know the formal tone of writing.
For the remaining subjects of Phase 1:
Reasoning and quantitative aptitude are common to almost every competitive exam that is conducted, across the banking sector. Compositely, for the NABARD Grade A Prelims exam, they carry 40 marks (20 each).
For these two sections, you can choose topics that you are good at and can afford not to cover all the topics exhaustively. In the case of reasoning, if you find the puzzle(s) to be difficult, do not waste time on it.
Instead, shift to questions of syllogism, inequalities, direction, distance, etc. Apply the same strategy for Quantitative Aptitude.
In Phase-I, the sections of GA and Computer Knowledge are the least time-consuming. However, students tend to bluff the most in the GA section, which causes unnecessary negative marking and thus a reduction in the overall marks.
There is no set syllabus for GA. To have a good grasp on the GA, stay updated with current affairs (of at least the last six months), read newspapers regularly, and read yearbooks like Manorama. Lay more emphasis on news related to banking, finance, agriculture, and the Economy.
