SSC CGL Exam Pattern

SSC CGL examination is conducted in online mode. The examination is divided into two tiers, namely Tier 1 and Tier 2 followed by document verification. Candidates appearing for this exam need to clear each tier to proceed to the next stage of the SSC CGL selection process. The SSC CGL syllabus for both tiers is almost the same, just the difficulty level of the questions varies.

SSC CGL Tier 1

SSC CGL Tier 1 consists of 100 questions comprising different sections like Quantitative aptitude, English, Reasoning, and General awareness that must be attempted in 60 minutes. All the sections described above carry 25 questions, with a negative marking of 0.5. Each question carries 2 marks which makes tier 1 of 200 marks.

SSC CGL Tier 2

SSC CGL Tier 2 is divided into three parts: Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 3. Paper 1 is mandatory for all applicants, while Paper 2 is specifically for candidates who have applied for the position of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. Paper 3 is for applicants who have applied for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer.

SSC CGL Eligibility

Since you are familiar with the SSC CGL full form, it’s time to know the parameters one should fulfill to be eligible for the exam. There are three major factors that affect SSC CGL Eligibility.

Nationality: In order to be eligible for the SSC CGL exam, one has to be a citizen of India, Nepal, and Bhutan.

Age Limit: Candidates must be between the age group of 18 years and 32 years. There is relaxation provided in the upper age limit for the reserved category candidates. To be noted, the age limit varies as per the group and SSC CGL posts.

Education Qualification: He/she should hold Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University. There are post-specific educational qualifications criteria too.

Physical Fitness: There are physical fitness criteria for some of the posts like Inspector and Sub-inspector, which a candidate needs to meet, failing which he/she would not be administered to the following posts: Excise Inspector/ Examiner/Preventive Officer/Inspector & Sub-Inspector in Narcotics, Sub-Inspector in National Investigation Agency (NIA) and posts in Border Roads Organisations (BRO).
