Vocabulary is an essential tool to ace the English section in competitive examinations. You can score better in the subject if you are able to intensify your command over Vocabulary. A regular reading habit can help you with this. With the exercise, you will come across a number of new words, whose meanings you can look up in the dictionary. 

To enhance your command of English vocabulary, you must learn new words regularly. Now, the question arises, how you can strengthen your vocabulary skills. For this, it is necessary that you improve your reading habit, by going through newspapers on a daily basis and look up new words. This exercise will also help you understand the context of the sentences.

  • Pronunciation: in-kawr-puh-reyt/ इन्कॉर्परैट
  • Part of Speech: Verb, Adjective
  • Meaning: 
    a. take in or contain (something) as part of a whole; include. (Verb)
    b. having a bodily form; embodied.
  • Synonyms: include, integrate, combine, embody
  • Antonyms: exclude, separate, divide
  • Usage in a sentence: The party vowed to incorporate environmental considerations into all its policies.

2. Word: Hastily (शीघ्रता पूर्वक)

  • Pronunciation:hey-st-lee/हैस्टली
  • Part of Speech: Adverb
  • Meaning: with excessive speed or urgency; hurriedly.
  • Synonyms: quickly, swiftly, rapidly,
  • Antonyms: slowly, carefully, deliberately 
  • Use in a Sentence: The student was hastily sent to school.

 3Word: Deprivation (अभाव का कष्ट)

  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning:

       a. the damaging lack of material benefits considered to be basic necessities in a society.

       b. the lack or denial of something considered to be a necessity.

  • Synonyms: poverty, impoverishment, withdrawal, removal
  • Antonyms: abundance, indulgence, offering
  • Use in a Sentence: Sleep deprivation can cause stress, loss of appetite and lethargy.

4. Word: Reckon (समझना, सम्मिलित करना)

  • Pronunciationrek-uhn/ रेकन
  • Part of Speech: Verb
  • Meaning
    a. establish by calculation.
    b. be of the opinion.
    c. rely on or be sure of.
  • Synonyms: calculate, think, figure, estimate, count
  • Antonyms: deprive, disavow, depreciate, abandon
  • Usage in a sentence: I reckon that it's going to rain.

5. Word: Draft (लिखना,दस्ता,नक्षा,ढांचा बनाना)

  • Pronunciation: ड्रैफ्ट/drahft
  • Part of Speech: Noun, Verb, Adjective
  • Meaning:
    a. a piece of text, a formal suggestion, or a drawing in its original state, often containing the main ideas and intentions but not the developed form (Noun)
    b. (of drinks such as beer) stored in and served from large containers, especially barrels (Adjective)
    c. to write down a document for the first time, including the main points but not all the details (Verb)
  • Synonyms: outline, sketch, design, formulate
  • Antonyms: discharge, abandon, delivery
  • Usage in a sentence:
    a. Arpit, draft a proposal for the project and we can discuss it at the meeting.
    b. This is only a rough draft - the finished article will have pictures too.

6. Word: Compartmentalise (अलग अलग करना)

  • Pronunciation: kuhm-pahrt-men-tl-ahyz/कंपार्टमेंटलआइस
  • Part of Speech: Verb
  • Meaning:
    a. to separate something into parts and not allow those parts to mix together
  • Synonyms: cut up, isolate, single out
  • Usage in a sentence: His life was carefully compartmentalized, with his work in one city and his social life in another.

7. Word: Protocol (संलेख)

  • Pronunciation: proh-tuh-kawl / प्रोटकाल
  • Part of Speech: Noun
  • Meaning: the official procedure or system of rules governing affairs of state or diplomatic occasions.
  • Synonyms: procedure, etiquette, convention
  • Antonyms: crudeness
  • Usage in a sentence: The organizer was familiar with the protocol of royal visits.

8. Word: In dire straits (खतरनाक स्थिति)

  • Part of Speech: Idiom
  • Pronunciation: इन दायर स्ट्रेट्स
  • Meaning: In a very bleak or grim situation
  • Synonyms: at a dead end, dead on arrival
  • Antonyms: in the black, privileged
  • Use in a Sentence: The firm is in dire straits and may go bankrupt.

9. Word: Underscore (बल देना,रेखांकित करना)

  • Pronunciation: uhn-der-skawr/ अन्डर्स्कॉर

  • Meaning: imagine as a future possibility; visualize.

My family planned to compartmentalize our villa to incorporate more rooms for the guests underscore marriage ceremony. The job completed hastily in a week as ceremony was on the arrival. Now if we reckon the no. of guest asked in for the ceremony, I think the rooms are more than enough to fit in any no. of people.
