French fashion designer Coco Chanel quoted, ‘A girl should be two things: who and what she wants’. While ‘empower’ means ‘to authorise’, women empowerment takes with it a broader approach of making women be at par with men at all levels.

The fact that Indian women have always stood up high and proved time and again that they are no less than men in the country cannot be denied. They have proved themselves to be the pillar of a strong standing stable environment. A woman has the power to build, nurture and transform. Crime against women has always been prevailing, it is just that the media has unveiled it now at a bigger scale. To take women empowerment into the real-world context, we need to begin with eradicating male chauvinism. It is the combined effort of both the genders which can bring about a change. We need to develop a sense of respect for each other which should ideally be a part of a good upbringing. Indian women are no longer prisoned in the four walls of the house rather they have stepped out and been great leaders. It is the awareness about their rights and the urge inside them which has caused this change.

The need is to set our minds open and work towards a future where both men and women work together, have equal rights and respect each other. Create an environment such that the women are not scared of those staring eyes all around them but brave enough to stare back again.
