The Railway Protection Force Act, 1957, passed by the Indian Parliament, established the Railway Protection Force (RPF), a security force that is under the control of Indian Railways, the Ministry of Railways, and the Government of India, for he better protection and security of railway property and passenger area. The Railway Property Act of 1966 and The Railways Act of 1989 provide it the authority to search, detain, investigate, and bring legal action against those who violate them. However, the Government Railway Police (GRP) of the state police have the authority to make arrests in accordance with other criminal laws. The Indian Ministry of Railways is in charge of the force.

The Civil Services Examination is used to select all officers of the Railway Protection Force, who are all employees of the Indian Railway Protection Force Service. RPF Salary serves as a motivating factor for applicants who want to join the force. The salary of an RPF Constable might range from 3.5 to 4 lakhs, and a respectable raise is given each year. In addition to the basic RPF salary, allowances may also include travel expenses, dearness expenses, and HRA. The Pay Band of RPF Constable is 21,700/- plus usual allowances; for SI, the salary is 35,400/- plus other allowances as admissible to Central Government Employees.
