1. MCA appoints Sangeeta Verma as acting Chairperson of CCI

  • The government of India has appointed CCI member, Sangeeta Verma as the acting chairperson of the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
  • Her appointment came into effect from 26th October 2022.
  • She will remain in office for three months or till appointment of regular Chairperson or till any further orders, whichever is the earliest.
  • She has replaced Ashok Kumar Gupta, who relinquished office after a four-year tenure.

2. Tata Steel's Dutch arm signs MOU to supply Ford with green steel

  • Tata Steel's Dutch arm has signed an MoU with the Ford in Europe to supply "green" steel after 2030.
  • Tata has planned to produce green steel (steel made without using fossil fuels) in 2030 at its plant in Ijmuiden, Netherlands.
  • Ford has also signed supply MOUs with Tata, ThyssenKrupp (Germany) and Salzgitter (Germany) to supply "low carbon" steel for use in manufacturing the new electric crossover model.
  • It would help to meet a target of having zero emissions by 2035.

3. CCI imposes Rs 936 crore penalty on Google for abuse of dominance

  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed another  penalty of Rs. 936.44 crore on Google.
  • Reason: Abusing its dominant position with respect to its Play Store policies.
  • Google dominance in the markets for licensable OS for smart mobile devices & market for app stores for Android smart mobile OS, in India.
  • Earlier, CCI had imposed a penalty of ₹1,337.76 crore on Google for abusing its dominant position in multiple markets in the Android Mobile ecosystem.

4. Bengali film director Pinaki Chaudhuri passes away

  • Bengali films director, Pinaki Chaudhuri has been passed away at the age of 82 in Kolkata.
  • He was suffering from lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system.
  • He had been awarded the two national awards for Shanghaath (Conflict) in 1996 and for Ballygunge Court in 2007.
  • His other notable films: 'Kakababu Here Gelen?' (Kakababu defeated?), 'Ek Tukro Chand' (A slice of the moon) and 'Arohan' (Ascension).

5. Gujarati celebrates new year 'Bestu Varsh'

6. Upper Bhadra scheme will be first national project of Karnataka

  • Karnataka CM, Basavaraj Bommai has announced that the Union cabinet will soon approve the Upper Bhadra lift irrigation scheme.
  • It will be the first national project of Karnataka.
  • It will revive the drought-prone districts of Chitradurga, Chikkamagaluru, Davanagere and Tumakuru, as it is expected to irrigate about 2.3 lakh hectares by drawing water from the Tunga and Bhadra rivers.
  • He has also announced that the Tumakuru-Davanagere railway line has been reviewed.

  • He has defeated Ahmet Duman of Turkey by 12-4 in the finals.
  • India has finished with six medals - one gold, one silver, and four bronze at the U-23 World Wrestling Championships 2022.
  • Sajan Bhanwala became the first Greco-Roman wrestler from India to win a medal bronze at the U23 world wrestling championships.

12. Jakson Green to invest ₹ 22,400 crore for green project in Rajasthan

  • The project is expected to generate over 32,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
