How to Prepare for SBI PO, IBPS PO, & IBPS RRB Officer Scale 1 2020-21?
Let us first understand the motive of conducting the interview procedure after qualifying the online examination. An interview is the test of the personality of a candidate as in a bank; it is of utmost importance, sometimes, more than your knowledge. There will be occasions when you will not know the solution to a problem but you can manage the situation with the help of simple smile and polite behaviour. This is what is intended to be judged by an interview. We have listed below the traits which an interviewer checks while interviewing the candidate -
1. Communication Skills
2. Positive Attitude
3. Leadership Quality
4. Ability to work under the pressure
5. Ability to work with a team (Teamwork & cooperation)
5. Academic Level
6. Family Background
7. Knowledge about the banking sector
8. Social Quotient and General Awareness.
We shall go ahead with very simple things regarding the preparation phase for the interview because that is what is required to become successful in the interview. Some simple steps are there as explained below:
1. Arrange all your documents in order:
This is the most important step. As and when the interview dates are announced, collect the following required documents. Do not wait for the last moment to arrange them. Without the required documents you will not be allowed for the Interview and Group discussion procedure.
- Printout of your Interview Call Letter
- Printout of online application
- 10th, 12th Mark sheet & Certificate
- Graduation Marksheets and Degree Certificate (Provisional/Final)
- Identity Proof (Any one of these -Voter Id, Aadhar Card, Driving License. Passport, PAN Card, Passbook)
- Birth Certificate by the respective Municipal authorities
- Caste Certificate (If applicable)
- Work Experience Certificate (If applicable)
- No objection certificate (If applicable)
2. Prepare 'about yourself' very well:
As mentioned above, the purpose of the interview is to check the personality and traits of a candidate rather than knowledge. Get to know about yourself in a proper manner. Maintain a notebook and write answers in it about yourself. The most important questions are meaning of your name/surname, any important date related to your birth date, your strengths, weaknesses, hobbies, and interests. Do not forget to state one example for each one of these. Do not lie in answering these questions, but do not tell truths which can affect your selection. For example, your weakness is being lazy and sleepy then you should not mention it. Prepare the answer to all such questions beforehand and answer smartly on the day of the interview. Make sure to let interviewers know about your qualities which makes you suitable for the job of a banker.
2. Thorough Knowledge of your State/City/Locality:
The questions related to the candidate's state/city/locality are one of the most asked questions in bank interviews. Know about your birthplace as well as your current place in detail. Search regarding the historical places and famous persons related to your birthplace and current place.
3. Have Proper knowledge about the bank:
Understand the history, services, branches, size, and rank of the bank properly. You can get all the updated information related to the bank on its official website. If you have a proper understanding of the bank then it gives the impression to the interviewer that you are serious about getting an entry into this bank.
5. A proper understanding of the profile:
You must have a proper understanding of the profile for which you have applied. Understand properly the job profile, nature of the job and other relevant information for the Probationary Officer/Assistant Administrative Officer in the Bank/company. You must be aware of the salary, promotion and other information related to the probationary officer.
4. Read Newspaper on a daily basis:
Reading newspaper should be your habit rather than a requirement. It is the goldmine of current affairs, hence, this one month, read a standard newspaper as well as a financial newspaper in order to be aware of the happenings around you. Most importantly, read the newspaper of the day of your interview without fail.
5. Revise the Basics of your Graduation Subjects:
This is an important part since the interviewers judge your sincerity from the answers you give for the questions from your graduation/post-graduation subject. These subjects you have read but banking you have not read. So, it is excused if you are not able to answer banking questions but subject questions are expected to be answered by the candidates.
6. Prepare the general and frequently asked questions well:
There are some questions which are very important as these are asked to every second candidate. Some basic questions such as 'Why do you want to be a banker', 'Why Banking after engineering/medical/MBA etc' are very common and the answers of such questions matter a lot for scoring well in Interview.
7. Mock Interviews:
Mock interviews are of great help to prepare for the actual interviews. Through the mock test session, you can get to know where you are lacking and what else you need to prepare. The mock test simulates the confidence to a great extent for the D-day.
Key Tips for the Interview Day
8. Dress Formally:
An interview is not a fashion show and hence, try to be dressed according to a formal office. Males can go with a light striped shirt with trousers along with a tie (a suit is recommended but not mandatory). Your shoes should be preferably black in color and well-polished whereas the belt should match the color of the shoes. Ladies should opt for a Salwar suit, formal trousers with a shirt (light color) or a saree.
9. Learn to say “No” in a polite manner:
It is not possible for a human being to know the answer to each and everything. However, how you express your inability to answer matters the most. A polite “no” will fetch you extra marks whereas a wrong intonation will attract a penalty. Just make it sound like you are sorry not to know and you are interested in knowing about that.
10. Be Yourself:
This is the most desired trait/approach which is desired in any interview. Fake accent or fake behavior is easily recognizable by the experienced interviewers. Just be yourself and answer as per your convictions and opinions. Never ever say something you don’t know about or you don’t how to back that with logic or examples.
11. Do not get nervous & show enthusiasm -
This is the most important tip. Show them that you are full of enthusiasm to give your services to the bank. Do not get nervous. Take it as a formal conversation and answer accordingly. If you are feeling nervous, just take a deep breath and feel proud of your achievement. You have already come a long way that is why you are shortlisted for the interview. you're already on the shortlist so they must think pretty highly of you already. Remember to slow down, listen and be yourself. If you do that, you'll come across as relaxed, authentic and confident.
Last but not least, this is an interview and try to take it like that only. Do not take the stress of it. Just give your best shot.
