The place where Cotton Mill workers organized satyagraha was the Kheda district of Gujarat. The workers in Kheda were asking the state for the remission of taxes following the failure of their harvest. In 1917, Mahatma Gandhi organized a satyagraha to support the workers.

The workers were affected by crop failure and a plague epidemic. They were not able to pay the revenue and were demanding to relax the revenue collection. This was the reason behind the Cotton Mill worker satyagraha in the Kheda district of Gujarat. It was the third satyagraha movement organized by Mahatma Gandhi. 

  • It was supported by newly joined Satyagrahi Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and other local lawyers and advocates.
  • As a result, the tax for the year in question, and the next was suspended, the increased tax rate was reduced, and confiscated property was returned.
