MyGov

Context

MyGov, the citizen engagement program for participative governance, has completed 6 years.

About MyGov

  • MyGov citizen engagement platform was launched on 26th July 2014.
  • Mygov.in was conceptualized as a common platform to "crowdsource governance ideas from citizens".
  • MyGov platform provides an opportunity to citizens and all stakeholders from across the world to share their views on key governance issues across all stages by directly engaging with the Government Departments, policy makers and implementers.
  • Almost all Government Departments leverage MyGov platform for their citizen engagement activities, consultations for policy formulation as also to disseminate information to citizens for various Government schemes and programs.


Some Achievements

  • MyGov has been successfully transformed to a sought-after citizen engagement and dissemination platform for government programs and policies. 
  • Since its launch in 2014, MyGov has more than 122 lakh registered users, around 778, 000 submissions have been made in 953 tasks and around 45 lakh comments have been received in 839 discussion forums. 
  • Around 53 lakh people have taken part in 126 quizzes and 33.70 Pledges have been taken in 24 Pledges.
  • MyGov is amongst the most active profiles on Social Media – Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube & LinkedIn. 
  • MyGov has also launched State instances in 12 States, and other States are in the process of being onboarded.
  • AI enabled MyGov Corona Helpdesk also bagged two awards at Global Leadership Summit and Festival of AI & Emerging Technology, CogX 2020.

Benefits

  • MyGov’s reach has helped in getting citizen inputs during policy formulation resulting in the development of programs and schemes that are able to address key citizen concerns. 
  • It has also helped in expanding the outreach of the Government to citizens, thereby improving the image of the Government. 
  • MyGov has evolved into a complete and end-to-end engagement platform with a wide variety of engagement models. 
  • It also offers Performance Indicators of various Flagship Programmes of the Government.
  • Today it has become a trusted source of information for citizens during these harsh and tough times of COVID-19 pandemic.

Kargil Vijay Diwas

Context

On the 21st Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Union Home Minister paid tributes to the martyrs and recalled their bravery and valour.

Operation Vijay

  • On July 26, 1999, Indian Armed Forces had defeated Pakistan under Operation Vijay. 
  • Since then, Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated commemorating the indomitable valour, bravery and supreme sacrifice of the Indian soldiers.
  • Brave soldiers of the Indian Army had overcome seemingly insurmountable odds, hostile terrain, inclement weather, and the enemy occupying dominating heights, to win the conflict with the help of Indian Air Force, which gave the air support.

Kargil

  • The town of Kargil is located 205 km (127 mi) from Srinagar, facing the Northern Areas across the LOC.
  • Indian national highway (NH 1) connecting Srinagar to Leh cuts through Kargil. 
  • The area that witnessed the infiltration and fighting is a 160-kilometre (100 mi) long stretch of ridges overlooking this only road linking Srinagar and Leh.
  • Kargil was targeted partly because the terrain was conducive to the preemptive seizure of several unoccupied military positions.
