Physiography of Madhya Pradesh

  • Location: 21º 6’ N to 26º 30' N latitudes and 74º 9’ E to 82º 48’ E longitudes
    Extent: East to West is 870 km and
                North to South is 605 km
  • Geographical area: 3,08,252 sq Km
  • Tropic of Cancer divides the MP into two equal halves and passes through 14 districts of the state i.e. Ratlam, Ujjain, Shajapur, Rajgarh, Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen , Sagar, Damoh, Jabalpur, katni, Umaria, Shahdol and Anuppur.
  • It shares its boundaries with five states
    (a) Rajasthan on North-West: 10 districts i.e. Morena, Shivpuri, Guna, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Meemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Jhabua, Sheopur 
    (b) Uttar Pradesh on North-East: 11 districts i.e. Singrauli, Sagar, Guna, Datia, Shivpuri, Sidhi, Rewa, Satna, Panna, Chhatarpur, Bhind 
    (c) Chhattisgarh on South-East: 5 districts i.e. Sidhi, Shahdol, Balaghat, Mandala, Dindori
    (d) Maharashtra on South: 7 districts i.e. Khargaon, Badwani, Betul, Khandwa, Chhindwara, Siwani, Balaghat
    (e) Gujarat on West: 2 districts i.e. Jhabua, Alirajpur
