Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL full form) was established in September 1987 in accordance with the Companies Act of 1956, "with the objective of undertaking the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the nuclear power plants for the generation of electricity in pursuance of the schemes and programs of the Government of India under the provisions of the Atomic Energy Act 1962." The business operates nuclear power plants that have all received ISO-14001 certification (Environment Management System).
Up until the establishment of BHAVINI Vidyut Nigam in October 2003, NPCIL was the only organization in charge of building and running India's commercial nuclear power projects. The firm had 21 nuclear reactors running at seven different locations as of August 10, 2012, for a total installed capacity of 6780 MWe.
