NLAT Important Topics 2020: As you all know, the National Law Aptitude Test (NLAT) is scheduled to be held on 12th September 2020 which will be conducted by the National Law School of India (NLSIU) Bangalore. Worried about the important topics to Focus for NLAT 2020? NLAT Exam Pattern 2020

NLAT 2020 will be a 45 minutes test, with a total of 40 multiple-choice questions carrying 2 marks each. There will be a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every wrong answer.

The NLAT 2020 UG will test candidates on 5 (five) subjects 

  • English Language,

  • Current Affairs Including General Knowledge,

  • Legal Reasoning,

  • Logical Reasoning, and

  • Quantitative Techniques

In totality, there will be 2 questions in each General Comprehension from the 5 (five) subjects. Each GC will contain 2 questions from every i.e 5 sections that will amount to 8 questions in totality from each section. 

Section 1 - English Language

The important topics for the English section are as under:

  • Proverbs and adverbs,
  • Synonyms and antonyms,
  • idioms and phrases,
  • Vocabulary and word meanings

The applicant shall attempt the Daily Vocab Quiz posted on the BYJU'S Exam Prep page in order to understand the context as well as the meaning of different words. It will give them clarity regarding their preparation and will aid in the revision process. 

Further, the passages will be derived from news, journalistic sources and other non-fiction writing. The questions may include an examination of legal information or knowledge discussed in or related to the passage, but would not require any additional knowledge of the law beyond the passage.

Section 2 - GK and Current Affairs

The questions will be designed in such a way so as to test the candidate's knowledge about legal information or the same related to the passage. Questions may also relate to matters associated with the events mentioned in the passage - for a passage about a natural calamity, for example, you may face questions not only about that natural calamity, but similar events in other parts of the world. All these passages will comprise such questions that will analyse your awareness of various aspects of current affairs and general knowledge.

Section 3 - Legal Reasoning

The passages will relate to facts, situations and scenarios involving legal matters, public policy questions and moral philosophical enquiries. You will not require any prior knowledge of the law. You will benefit from a general awareness of contemporary legal and moral issues to better apply general principles or propositions to the given fact scenarios.

Each passage would be followed by a series of questions that will require you to:

  • Identify and infer the principles and rules set in the passage
  • Apply those principles and rules to various factual situations
  • Try to understand how changes to the principles or rules may alter their application to various factual situations.

Section 4 - Logical Reasoning

A major chunk of the passage-based reasoning questions in this section will be based on the following topics:

  • Analogies, 
  • Arguments and Conclusions 
  • Sequences

Section 5 - Quantitative Techniques

The Quantitative Techniques section of the UG-NLAT 2020 will include short sets of facts or graphs, propositions or other textual, pictorial or diagrammatic representations of numerical information, followed by a series of questions.

Applicants will be required to derive information from such passages, graphs, or other representations, and apply mathematical operations on such information and derive a solution to the question asked.

Candidates have to attempt the objective-type of questions based by calculating the information. You have to derive, infer and manipulate the numerical data which will be based on ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration, and statistics. The topics that can be questioned about in this section include the following:

  • set of facts,
  • propositions,
  • graphs,
  • pictorials,
  • the textual
  • or diagrammatic representation.
