  • In Ladakh, the altitude ranges from roughly 3000 meters in Kargil to more than 8,000 meters in the Karakoram.
  • The area has a very chilly and dry environment because of its high altitude. Because of how thin the air is at this height, the sun's heat is very strong. Summertime daytime temperatures are above zero.
  • The nighttime lows continue considerably below 30 degrees Celsius. Winters are extremely chilly. It receives little precipitation, as little as 10 cm annually, due to its location in the Himalayas' rain shadow. Both frigid winds and scorching sun batter the area.

Ladakh's chilly desert has little vegetation because of its great aridity. There are few plants and grassy places for animals to feed on. In the lowlands, willow and poplar groves can be seen. Fruit trees like apple, apricot, and walnut trees bloom in the summer.
