The largest freshwater lake in India is called the Wular Lake which is located in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir or J&K. The basin of the lake was created as a result of some tectonic activity and the lake is fed by the famous Jhelum river which is an integral part of the valley.

However, because of willow plantations in the neighbouring areas, most of the Wular Lake has been drained out or depleted but it is still regarded as one of the most beautiful heritage sites and legacy destinations in the country.
