To tackle the heinous offences of sexual nature against children and young adults, the Ministry of Women and Child Development introduced the POCSO Act in 2012. The amended bill was moved by Smriti Irani in 2019.

The POCSO full form stands for the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences. The purpose of enacting this Act was to safeguard children from sexual crimes and harassment which is extremely prevalent.
