The capital of Gujarat is the beautiful city of Gandhinagar. As the name indicates, it was named after the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and is a well-planned city that is situated on the banks of the Sabarmati River. The construction of the city began in the year 1965.
Since the largest city and the commercial hub in Gujarat is Ahmedabad, people often mistake it for the capital. This is also because Ahmedabad used to be the capital of Gujarat earlier and then the title was given to Gandhinagar in 1970.
