Every year, thousands of aspirants appear for many competitive exams like JEE, SSC, Banking, and other Government examination. Mathematics is considered to be one of the toughest parts of these exams. Most of the candidates are afraid of the subject like Maths, but it’s just a myth that one cannot score good marks in the Mathematics section. If you have good command over concepts you can definitely score well in any entrance examination. Here in this article, we have provided some of the important topics of CBSE Class 9 Mathematics that will help you to ace your school exams plus any competitive exams. Scroll down the page to find the information.

Powerful Tips to Get Strong Command Over Mathematics

Well, Mathematics paper requires a lot of calculations, and you are not allowed to use a calculator in most competitive examinations, there are powerful Mathematics tips and tricks which you can use to boost your speed and hence increase the number of attempted questions with improved accuracy.

  • Important Things to Learn in Maths - Tables, Divisibility Rules and Factorization Methods

These short tips will help reduce the calculation times significantly. For instance, memorizing the tables of prime numbers like 17, 19 and so on by heart will save you quite a lot of time when answering the questions in a competitive exam. Factorization techniques and divisibility rules are also easy to understand and very important as an exam points of view. Noting down all such methods and tricks in a separate notebook is a great technique to make your preparation easy.

  • Consider a Practical Look of Mathematics Instead of the Boring Theoretical Look

Applying Mathematics to real-life problems is probably the best and easy way to understand it better. While relating it to something that you can visualize or know about, it becomes easier to apply the principles and formulae. You can also easily remember all the formulas in your need or in the examination time. Therefore, try to make it practical rather than theoretical!

  • Keep track Over Your Speed and Accuracy

When you see time ticking on the clock in your examination, there are only a few minutes to go, and you still have a lot of stuff to do. What would a normal person do at that moment of time? Panic, and make silly mathematical calculation mistakes. What’s important in Mathematics is that you keep your calm and approach the questions in a compromised manner to maintain your speed and accuracy. It is better to solve one question correctly than answering two incorrect questions and which can lead negative marks.

Chapter Wise Important Topics for CBSE Class 9 Mathematics :

Certain topics from the following chapters are easy to learn and master. Therefore, practicing these topics before your examination will lead to the best results :

1. Number Systems -

  • The major portion of this chapter is deleted this year, students can score 100% marks in simple questions based on laws of exponents, rationalizing the denominators, etc.
  • Rationalize the Denominator
  • Laws of Exponents

2. Polynomials -

  • A chapter with a lot of conceptual understanding. It can be considered to be a bridge between Algebraic Expressions and Factorisation from class 8th and Polynomials in class 10th. It is one of the most important topics of Algebra in class 9th. Focus majorly on Remainder and Factor theorem and Algebraic Identities.
  • Remainder and Factor Theorem
  • Factorization and Division of Polynomials
  • Algebraic Identities

3. Coordinate Geometry -

  • A very direct chapter. 100% marks can be scored in this chapter by keeping in mind just the concept of quadrants and locations of points in the cartesian plane.
  • Cartesian Plane
  • Equations of x and y axes

4. Linear Equations in two variables  -

  • Can be considered an extension of the previous topic. It is majorly conceptual and not calculative, unlike in class 10th.
  • Plotting of a graph of linear equations in two variables
  • Solutions
  • Graphs of lines parallel to x and y axes

5. Lines and Angles -

  • The first chapter of Geometry in class 9th Mathematics. The complete chapter lies on three basic pillars, The linear pair axiom & Vertically Opposite angle theorem, Parallel lines and a transversal and Angle sum Property.
  • Linear pair axiom
  • Vertically opposite angles theorem
  • Angle sum property
  • Parallel lines and a transversal

6. Triangles -

  • The complete chapter now only comprises congruence. It is one of the strong concepts needed to understand basic geometry and draw analogy with triangles in class 10th. Inequalities has been deleted from the syllabus this year.
  • Congruency
  • Properties of a triangle (Isosceles triangle theorem)

7. Quadrilaterals -

  • An extension of Understanding quadrilaterals from class 8th. The major addition and scoring point of this chapter is the midpoint theorem. General properties of parallelograms, and how a quadrilateral can be proven to be a parallelogram are important concepts.
  • Diagonal divides a parallelogram into two congruent triangles
  • Important properties of parallelogram
  • How to prove a quadrilateral to be a parallelogram
  • Mid Point theorem

8. Circles -

  • It is a part of the complete unit of circles which is also continued in class 10th. The chapter seems very vast but can be divided based on theorems. Major focus is on chords and their theorems, angle subtended and cyclic quadrilaterals. Some questions are famous and often asked, Focus majorly on Exercise 10.4 and 10.5 from the NCERT.
  • Chords and their properties
  • The angle subtended by an arc of a circle
  • Cyclic quadrilaterals

9. Constructions -

  • Only three basic types of constructions to learn from now, a chance of 100% score possible. Focus on neat constructions and labelling, and understand the steps.
  • Construction of triangles when 1 base angle

  • Sum of other sides given

  • Difference of other sides given

10. Heron’s Formula -

  • Purely based on only one formula. Very rare chance of losing marks here.
  • Area of a triangle using Heron’s Formula

11. Surface Areas and Volumes -

  • Again a chapter which has extensions and continuations in class 10th as well. The best approach to study the chapter is to break it down into 3D figures. Cube & Cuboid, Cylinder & Cone, Sphere & Hemisphere.
  • Tricks to use Pi () in the calculation are helpful to avoid errors in this chapter. Questions can be highly calculative here, but repeated practice can ensure a good score.
  • Surface Area and Volume of a Cube
  • Surface Area and Volume of a Cuboid
  • Surface Area and Volume of a Cylinder
  • Surface Area and Volume of a Cone
  • Surface Area and Volume of a Sphere
  • Surface Area and Volume of a Hemisphere

12. Statistics -

  • Data-oriented, focus on compilation and representation of data. Give ample time to it in the examination as time is the factor that takes away the marks here. Usually the questions are purposefully placed in the end. Manage time, otherwise statistics is also highly scoring.
  • Graphical representation of data (Bar graphs and HIstograms)
  • Measures of Central tendency (Mean, Median and Mode for ungrouped data)
  • Mean of grouped data

13. Probability -

  • Simple concept of empirical probability. Where the data is given, we merely need to predict. 100% marks can easily be obtained in this chapter.
  • Empirical probability
